A weekend of firsts

We finally gave Adeline her first bath this weekend. She was so good and didn't cry at all!  She also started showing interest in looking at fun objects on her play mat.

First Coos

Playtime - reading books, singing, and making faces.  Adeline made cooing noises for the first time on Saturday when I was reading her a book (about horses of course). Both of us were there to hear and see it!

Survival

So I survived my first week at home alone with Adeline.  I learned some very important lessons along the way.

1. Soup is not the best food for eating alone with a baby
2. You need to have lots of one handed, no cook foods on hand otherwise you may start making lunch at 12:30 and not eat it until 3:30
3. Sleep always trumps cleaning even if your house looks like a bomb exploded - this is a new era in life where messy rules
4. Just when you think a fairly good routine has been established, baby will change her mind and you will have to start from scratch again
5. Getting out of the house takes at least an hour of preparation - the diaper will always need to be changed just as you are about to leave
6. It is not always clear when 'morning' occurs - is the 5am wake up time 'morning' or the 7:30am wake up time or the 11am? Same with bedtime.
7. Getting 8 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period makes for a much saner mom, even if it doesn't come all at once - thank goodness for hormones!
8. Your evening discussions with your husband will be a mix of work, politics, sleep and poop. This doesn't seem weird at all.
9. Sometimes you will lose track of how often you have bathed, brushed your teeth and changed your clothing
10. Your house will be messy no matter how hard you try or how much you swore this would not be the case
11. Some days you will accomplish absolutely nothing other than feeding your baby and yourself (just barely) and will have no idea how you spent your time
